TALAYAH HARDY

JONATHAN PULLEY

TALAYAH HARDY

On September 18, 1995, Ramona knew that her newborn Talayah was already something special. This mother began to instill a sense of hope, encouragement and drive in Talayah even at an early age. This encouragement gives Talayah an inquisitive, determined spirit that inspires her to excellence and makes a difference in the lives of others.

Talayah Hardy is an eleven year old, sixth grade student at Darden Middle School. She really loves school and SOS. She learns new things and is involved in sports and the arts. Art is one of Talayah’s favorite subjects because she loves to draw and create things. Her passion for the arts is evident in her pursuit of playing the flute as a member of her school band. Through SOS, she has learned to work hard to achieve her goal of being an “A” student. She has learned to stay focused and on task towards achieving her goals.

This young lady has a heart for service. Even at the age of eleven, she is already active in community programs and civic events. She is a leader on her soccer team. The importance of family plays a large role in her success. She likes to crochet with her Aunt and prepare meals for family gatherings. Breakfast is her specialty.

Ramona and Talayah have forged a strong bond as mother and daughter. Ramona takes responsibility in the education of Talayah through active involvement in PTA, visiting the school and regular correspondence with her teachers and SOS supervisors. Ramona says, “I encourage all parents to get involved in every aspect of their child’s life.”

Talayah is worthy of recognition for her efforts as an outstanding student in our SOS program. Her character adds value to others in her home, her school and her neighborhood. “I owe a lot of the credit to my mom, because she loves me, she takes care of me and she encourages me to do my best. I follow all the ‘A J Rightway’ character traits,” reports Talayah.

JONATHAN PULLEY

Hello, my name is Jonathan Pulley. I was born in Charlotte, NC on January 14, 1995. I am twelve (12) years old. I love playing basketball and I’m a pretty good player. I also play football, soccer and run track.
I am a sixth grader at Darden Middle School and a good student. I have all “A’s” on my report card. I attend Smart Choices for Youth
SOS After-School Program. This is a very good program for kids and it helps me a lot.
I hope to get a scholarship for basketball because I want to go to the University of North Carolina to get a degree in math.

At SOS after-school program, few students stand out as charismatic as Jonathan Pulley. His character has an impact in every arena of influence he encounters. As a 6th grader at Darden Middle School, Jonathan makes an impact through academics and athletics. By maintaining a 4.0 average with his passion for basketball and football drive Jonathan to succeed in the realm of education. His specialty is math and his future goals include a degree from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
Jonathan’s impact does not end with the sound of a school bell dismissal; he is cultivating his talents in athletics through the Boys & Girls Club. His gifting in athleticism is evident in him playing soccer, football, basketball and track. Through team competition, Jonathan is developing a good sportsmanship character that leads others in his peer groups.
Jonathan develops strong character through a supportive family unit. His faith is cultivated at Rocky Point Baptist Church as a member of the usher board.
