Smart Choices for Youth, Inc. recently celebrated its first annual Scholars and Overcomers' Banquet at the Farmington Heights Church of God in
Wilson, North Carolina. More than 200 people came out to witness this historic event. Several students from both Wayne and
Wilson
Counties were honored on this most memorable event. State Representative Jean Farmer-Butterfield delivered a powerful keynote address stressing the importance of education and overcoming odds.
The highlight of the evening was the awarding of trophies, plaques, and scholarships to deserving students. A wide range of emotions were exhibited as students accepted their well deserved awards! In total, seven full scholarships were given out to students attending
North Carolina
A & T
State
University and
St. Augustine’s College. Admissions Director Mr. Jorge Sousa of
St. Augustine’s College came down personally to deliver the good news to his future students. Parents and students were elated as the names of scholarship recipients were read.
